The Human Library
Posted in News on 28 May 2019
Imagine a place where you could ask anything to those whose lives are completely different to yours. Where people are the books and experiences are the stories. Where it’s encouraged to step out of your comfort zone and get to understand those who are stigmatised.
This is exactly what The Human Library is. This international organisation is designed to help people deal with their prejudices in a positive way. Helping people get rid of stigmas and stereotypes through dialogue with real people, and real experiences.
The “books” are voluntary people that have experienced prejudice or social exclusion, and those who want to “read them”, can ask about anything they’d like to know in order to understand and challenge their own prejudices.
It is a place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered.
When we read about the Human Library organisation, we couldn’t help but think, what an incredible idea! And after finding out there’s an event in London next month, we thought we’d share the news!
